SOFT MALLETS, FULL STEREO

The VibysM is a 3 1/2 octave Musser concert vibraphone, one of the best vibraphone models ever made. It was played with soft mallets to capture the widest dynamics and all the softness of the instrument, and recorded in ORTF configuration for a full stereo image.

The vibraphone was very popular in the jazz of the 50's and was used much less afterwards, but today it is back in popular music, modern jazz and even electronic music. Around 411 samples, with 9 velocity layers for the sustain and 3 for the releases.

Interface

VibysM interface
Default interface

The motor

Vibraphones often have a motor: a spinning bar that blocks all the resonance tubes at once, giving the instrument its famous vibrato. It is so characteristic that some players never play without it, so the VibysM simulates it, with its rate and an on/off switch.

You can also set the depth of the effect - not really possible on a real instrument, although it varies from one vibraphone to another.

The motor

Release, pedal and sensitivity

The releases and the sustain pedal noises, triggered automatically, each have their own volume, so you decide how much of the instrument's mechanics you hear.

The sensitivity adjusts the library to your taste and your playing, by setting how quiet the softest notes are.

Best vibes library on the market that doesn't need Kontakt. I play vibes and use this with my electronic mallet instrument. Sounds great for jazz as well other genres like rock or indie that occasionally use vibes; however, mallets are perhaps a little hard for some classical repertoire but definitely gets the job done.

My go-to vibes. Only issue is getting the velocities just right. The sustain pedal works just like the real deal, vibrato is pretty good and it's nice you can adjust the depth. Only thing missing (thank God!) is the whoosh, whoosh, whoosh of the vibrato motor.
