Marchin' is a classic marching band set: one 26" bass drum, one 28" orchestral bass drum, six 16" snares and eight 16" toms.
Every element was sampled with 20 velocity layers and 4 cycled round robins - 80 samples per element, around 4590 samples in all.
Marchin' was recorded with 3 microphone positions: a stereo pair around 3 meters away, plus one microphone above and one under each drum.
All the samples were carefully trimmed to keep the phase alignment, so the positions can be mixed together freely to get the sound you need from each element.
One panel covers the whole library. Play an element to select it, then set the volume and pan of each microphone position and the pitch of that element.
Remap any element to any key, or pick a mapping preset, and finish with the humanize, sensitivity and reverb controls.
Mixer
Element: play an element to select it (with Midi Group Select on), or choose it from the Element menu.
Volume and pan: for the OVH, Up and Down positions of the selected element.
Pitch: adjusts the pitch of the selected element.
Midi learn
Learn: press the key of the element you want to move, click Learn, then press the target key. Several elements can share the same key.
Mapping: presets for the most popular drum formats (GM, V-Drums, IMAP, NSKIT), or create your own.
Tweaks
Humanize: with the "all on one" mapping, where all 8 toms play from the same key, adds a random delay so they sound like 8 different players.
Sensitivity: sets the minimum volume for velocity 1, from a narrow to the full dynamic range.
Reverb: the amount of convolution reverb applied to the whole set.
A marching line is many players at once. A mapping preset lets you play several elements at the same time, and the "all on one" mapping fires all 8 toms from a single key, with the humanize spreading them out like real players.
A variable mapping repetition lets you play it with both hands, and the cymbals have their own trick: releasing the cymbal key plays a different muting sample depending on how long the note was held.
Sample player
Marchin plays in UVI Player (formerly UVI Workstation), UVI's free sample player. We provide it with every library you buy, so you don't need an expensive sampler to use our products. It works on Mac (macOS 10.14 or later, Intel or Apple silicon) and Windows (10 or later), standalone or as a plug-in (VST / VST3 / AU / AAX), in 64-bit only. More about it here.
