THREE WAYS TO HEAR A DOUBLE BASS

The Upright is a Chinese 4/4 four-string upright bass (double bass), recorded in detail from three microphone perspectives.

Around 2772 samples: 6 velocity layers for the sustain with two takes of each note (2 round robins), 14 velocities for the release, plus hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides and slaps.

Interface

Three microphone perspectives

The bass was recorded with a pair of overheads, a microphone next to the F-hole, and the pickup.

Their volumes are mixed on the right of the interface, so you can shape the sound towards more bass, more roundness or more detail and finger noise.

Legato, slides and slaps

Play legato and The Upright connects the notes with real hammer-on and pull-off samples, or with slides. The legato mode and legato distance decide what an overlapping note does and how wide an interval it applies to.

A slap effect can be switched on with its own volume and sensitivity, and an advanced vibrato sits on the modulation wheel.

Percussion and noises

Harmonics, ghost notes and string hits are all sampled, the small details that make a bass line sound played.

There are also percussion samples with round robins: hits with the hand on different parts of the bass.

Sample player

The Upright comes with its own sample player, the UVI Workstation 3 (requires v3.1.6 or later). We provide it for free with every library that you buy, you don't need to buy an expensive sampler to use our products. It works on Mac (10.14 or later intel or arm processor) and PC (windows 10 or later), in standalone or as a plugin (VST / VST3 / AU / AAX) and in 64 bits only. You can find more info about it here.

Copy Protection

We use the iLok system to protect our products and you can choose to register your license to your computer or to an iLok dongle. If you decide to use an iLok dongle, both V1 and V2 are compatible with our products. You can activate your license on up to 3 computers or iLok dongles at the same time and you can deactivate one and activate another as many times as you want.

Registration

Once your order is complete, you will be provided with a serial number. You will then be able to register it to your iLok account from our website on this page (you need to be logged in to access this page). The whole process is described in the FAQ (instructions + screencast).
